KIDS CLASSES

We want children and teens, above all, to experience joy and freedom to move their bodies in whichever dance class they attend. We offer nurturing and non-pressured classes with plenty of opportunities to explore and progress in their chosen dance genre. Some classes are more structured than others so it’s always good to discuss your child’s likes and requirements with us. Students will also get opportunities to perform at MBD if they wish too. We have a biannual show and small-scale performing opportunities as well as class ‘watching weeks’ for parents.

DANCE CLASS – MINI, JUNIOR & SENIOR 1 and SENIOR 2 –  (4-7yrs, 8-10yrs, 11-14yrs, 15-19yrs)

These are fun and varied classes with an energetic warm up followed by strengthening and a gentle stretch. We cover technical jazz and contemporary dance technique exercises which form the foundations of good posture, rhythm, coordination, spatial awareness as well as exploring jumps, turns, floor work and basic dance-acro. This class will also benefit from learning a wide range of choreography with influences of Contemporary, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Street, Lyrical and Latin.

YIN YOGA
Yin yoga is a simple yet profound method of yoga which I love and it benefits both the energetic and physical bodies. Yin is deeply nourishing; supporting joint mobility and it hydrates the connective tissue on the fascial level counteracting aging and creating longevity. It manipulates the meridians so the prana (the vital life force) can flow freely throughout the body (like needless acupuncture). We will focus on the spine and the shoulder and pelvic girdles.
In Yin we tend to hold passive, tension free, positions for 3-5 minutes allowing the body to settle fully into each asana. Props and modifications are used for each one of us for our individual practices and to suit our bodies. It’s a beautiful practice for gentle meditative self enquiry as you get to know your anatomical body better and what it needs and your mind-body connection will increase along with its awareness. We will end with a relaxing shavasana. Yin will help to reduce physical tension, stress levels and will aid sleep.

PBT – PROGRESSING BALLET TECHNIQUE – For Seniors 11+ and Adults
PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique) is a specialist conditioning programme designed to develop the strength, alignment, balance, flexibility, coordination and muscle memory needed for dance. Using equipment such as exercise balls and resistance bands, you’ll learn to feel how your body should work and carry this understanding into your dancing.

You don’t have to be a dancer to benefit! PBT is a great full-body workout for anyone wanting to improve strength, posture, balance, flexibility and body awareness.

For dancers wanting to progress quickly, PBT can complement regular dance training by strengthening the foundations of good technique and helping you develop greater control, precision and confidence.

No previous PBT experience required. Click here to visit the official PBT website and see more of the PBT work
